  FORUM 11

This week, we looked at the collection of design movements known as The Avantgarde including Constructivism, Futurism, Dadaism, and Bauhaus.

For Discussion Forum 11, begin by doing some further reading about The Avantgarde. In the Lecture, we discussed how the dominance of Western European design was heavily influenced by "winning" the Industrial Revolution and being the first place to industrialize and the first to set many early design precedents. However, the dominance of Euro-American design ideas does not mean that cultures all over the world – and even sub-cultures within America – were not simultaneously celebrating their own design cultures and innovating new designs. Do some research to identify a design culture or movement other than those discussed in this week's lecture. This might be a style of design rooted in another geographic place (ex: Africa or South America), time period (ex: Dynastic China or the Renaissance), or culture (ex: Pacific Islander aesthetics, Hip-Hop style, or Rave culture). At the top of your post state clearly the design movement that you are talking about. Describe the dominant features and aesthetic motifs that define your chosen design and include images that you think best represent it.

In your post, you should use the "Insert Stuff" button in D2L to post images related to your chosen topic so that they display easily for the rest of us to view (please avoid attachments). You should also copy and paste a link to where you found your example online. Then, describe in detail the design movement you have chosen and why you think it is significant.

To receive full credit craft your own post and then make a meaningful comment on at least two (2) of your classmates' posts. A meaningful comment is defined as 2-3 sentences that demonstrate clearly you have 1) read their original post in its entirety, and 2) you are responding to their thoughts and ideas in a clear and respectful way.
